The lay of the land...I mean blog
I'm starting this blog for the purpose of giving ideas as to how to design and decorate your military home! As a military family (army here!) we are constantly in transition. We move around, usually every 3-5 years and we are constantly decorating and re-inventing our homes, which is kinda cool because you can see what works and what doesn't and what FITS and what doesn't. Whether we live in military housing or "out in town". We need fabulous, affordable and easily transferable design ideas to make our temporary quarters look livable and permanent. I'm a firm believer in the phrase "home is where the military sends you", So I hope you follow me on my journey as I try to find affordable and portable ideas to turn my new military house into a home!

Hi Ryan,
ReplyDeleteNot sure how much you want to "invest" -- either money, labor or both in decorating, depending on "how permanent" home is.
Some relatively easy tips for adding some flair and design to the kids rooms: Go to a wallpaper store and pick out a few designs with large main design -- i.e., a large flower, etc. You can cut them out like stencils, use pre-made wallpaper paste that comes in a squeeze bottle with the roller attached, and decorate the walls. You can also by the pre-made self stick stencils (think of them like the old colorforms, where you can slap them on a surface, or peel them off and reuse when you move.
Contact paper will also work, but it sticks so well, it cane sometimesx be troublesome to work with.
Go to Michael's and get some craft ideas, or take a faux finish class at Home Depot to get some additional design ideas. Paint can completely change the looks of a room, and if you're into modern/contemporary design, add some striping techniques.
If you need help, give e a holler. I'm great at painting and wallpapering.
